¡Viva el Arte de Santa Barbara! presents ensemble Los Vega Son Jarocho performing a series of free family concerts and youth outreach events. Hailing from Veracruz, Mexico, Los Vega Son Jarocho is a group of fifth generation jarocho musicians.
The jarocho style features small guitars called jaranas, percussion, vocals, and percussive dancing called zapateado. The free family concerts include a performance on Oct. 18 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Isla Vista School, 6875 El Colegio Road, Isla Vista; Oct. 19 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at Guadalupe City Hall, 918 Obispo St., Guadalupe; and Oct. 20 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Marjorie Luke Theatre, Santa Barbara Junior High School, 721 E. Cota St., Santa Barbara.
A jarocho music workshop is Oct. 17 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the La Cumbre Junior High School, 2255 Modoc Road, Santa Barbara.
