The Santa Maria Valley Historical Society’s monthly history talk, Valley Speaks, features Jim Glines speaking about his late uncle, Frank Shields, on Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. at the Santa Maria Public Library’s Shepard Hall.

Shields was “the epitome of old time banking,” according to a press release from the Historical Society, and came to work at Santa Maria’s branch of Bank of America in 1928. Shields worked with local ranchers, farmers, and dairymen for loans and banking. Glines will give a detailed personal and anecdotal account of the well-known banker during his talk.

The Santa Maria Public Library is located at 421 S. McClelland St., Santa Maria. More information is available at shirleycontreras2@yahoo.com.
