The Santa Maria Valley Historical Society presents its regular historical talks series Valley Speaks on Sept. 11 at the Santa Maria Public Library’s Shepard Hall. The talk will focus on the history of the Los Alamos Valley as told by local writer and novelist R. Lawson Gamble.

Gamble, a resident of Los Alamos, delivers regular talks on Los Alamos, and shares a breadth of knowledge about Salomon Pico, the famous Californio bandit who inspired the story of Zorro and found refuge in Los Alamos’ hilly canyons.

The Santa Maria Public Library is located at 421 S. McClelland St., Santa Maria. The event is free and takes place at 11 a.m. Doors open at 10 a.m. More information is available through the Santa Maria Valley Historical Museum at 922-3130 or smvhsmuseum@outlook.com.
