Art Squared opened at Valley Art Gallery in Orcutt on Friday, Dec. 6, and will remain on display through Saturday, Dec. 28. This exhibition showcases 50 abstract paintings by local artist Beverly Johnson. The pieces vary in size and depth and were each created by an acrylic pour method Johnson has been experimenting with for the last few years, according to the gallery.
Due to the randomness inherent to the pouring process, Johnson has found the medium to be challenging but also fun, she explained in a media release from Valley Art Gallery.
āItās an informed process, and sometimes itās just about knowing when to stop,ā Johnson said, commenting on how she achieves her final results. āWhen the piece feels finished.ā
Johnsonās been interested in art since childhood, and her creative endeavors have led the artist to try various media throughout her long career. The Orcutt-based artist often uses either oil or watercolor to create her realistic landscapes and animal studies. Johnson also uses silk painting to create wearable garments and scarves. The artist also teaches painting classes at local schools and to the public by appointment (pictured above).
