The Santa Barbara County Foodbank will be presenting its 10th annual Empty Bowls fundraiser in less than three months, and the organization needs handcrafted bowls. The Foodbank is asking potters and ceramic artists from the community to donate one or more bowls for the event. So far, one-of-a-kind bowls have already come from Allan Hancock College and Righetti and St. Joseph high schools, as well as from individual artists. But organizers still need many more bowls to meet their 1,000-bowl goal.
The event runs from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 26 at the Santa Maria Fairpark. Attendees will be served a simple meal of hot soup and bread, similar to how many members of the community receive their meals.
The $25 donation from each attendee goes directly to feeding people in need and serves to raise awareness of the huge need to reduce hunger in the community.
Last year, the Foodbank fed more than 160,000 people countywide.
