The Foodbank of Santa Barbara County is asking the community for help in providing the namesake of the annual Santa Maria Empty Bowls fundraiser. The event pairs custom ceramic bowls, purchased to take home, with a delicious soup lunch. All the proceeds go back to the Foodbank.
Local artists, ceramicists, or groups are encouraged to donate one or more artfully decorated or produced bowls. The annual fundraiser garners support from many members of the community, explained Foodbank Development Manager Judith Monte in a statement released by the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County.
“In addition to the many artists currently involved, we know there are other people who dabble in ceramics and painting for a hobby, as well as other professionals. Empty Bowl provides a wonderful opportunity for the community to see their work, and we welcome everyone’s assistance,” she said in the statement. “Where necessary, we will partner potters and painters to provide for the maximum number of bowls possible.”
The Santa Maria Empty Bowls event will happen on Oct. 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Maria Fairpark, and artists are welcome to donate bowls in the meantime. More information is available at 937-3422, Ext. 106, or foodbanksbc.org.
