The Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department invites athletes and community members of all fitness levels to test their endurance at the inaugural “Tri-the Bull” Triathlon on Aug. 8.

The event consists of a quarter-mile swim, 10-mile bike ride, and a three-mile run. The cost to enter is $40 per person or $105 for a three-person relay team, and registration will continue through July 31. Participants must be at least 15 years old.

All participants will receive an event T-shirt and a medal. Awards will also be given to first- and second-place finishers in each division.

The department is also looking for volunteers age 18 and up to help with the event.
