The city of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department wants to invite boys and girls ages 6 to 12 to the second annual “Take Me Fishing” event, happening Sept. 21 at Jim May Park. The event is co-hosted by the Santa Maria Valley Sportsmen’s Association and Central Coast Salmon Enhancement.

Kids can learn the basics of fishing while they take part in a casting contest, fish printing activities, and a GPS treasure hunt—all for free. There will be a limited number of loaner fishing poles available.

“Take Me fishing” will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. No prior fishing experience is needed. Jim May Park is at 809 Stanford Drive, Santa Maria. For more information, call 925-0951, Ext. 260.
