The City of Santa Maria Police Department, Recreation and Parks Department, and the People for Leisure and Youth (PLAY, Inc.) have joined forces to provide a fun and safe event celebrating the National Night Out on Aug. 6 from 4 to 8 p.m.
Festivities will include free food and beverages, activities for youth, commercial and informational vendors, nonprofit organizations involved with literacy, and health and fitness programs. The nightās events will also include demonstrations by the Recreation and Parks Department, as well as local law enforcement, fire, military, and medical response teams.
The National Night Out is a worldwide event celebrated by cities and military bases. Since it began in 1984, the goal of the National Night out has been to promote public involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, and sending a message that communities can organize to stop crime.
