The People for Leisure and Youth (P.L.A.Y.) encourages the public to sample Santa Maria’s finest Mexican cuisine, beverages, and entertainment while supporting local recreational programs at its upcoming fundraiser.
Â
The organization’s annual “Tastes of Mexico” event will take place on Sep. 18 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Veterans’ Memorial Community Center. This year’s event features an expanded restaurant lineup serving popular meat dishes including asada, al pastor, carnitas, and mole. Linda La Michoacana will be offering Mexican ice cream and traditional Mexican flavored waters. A broad selection of Mexican beers and flavored margaritas will also be available for sampling from the bar. Participating restaurants will be judged on taste and booth decoration.
Â
The Righetti High School Marimba Band, Folklorico Dancers, and Maricachi Mexicanismo will provide the music for the event.
Â
Tickets cost $25 each, or $80 for a group of four. Buy tickets at the Recreation and Parks Department, 615 S. McClelland St. All proceeds raised go to P.L.A.Y. Inc., which funds recreational, cultural, and arts programs throughout the Santa Maria Valley.
