The South Coast Railroad Museum has more than just models; the historical organization has preserved and restored several working, vintage railroad cars. It will be offering rides on several of these antique locomotives from Santa Barbara to San Luis Obispo and back.
An expedition is scheduled for July 13 featuring the Vista Dome car, āSilver Splendor.ā The car offers a glass-domed top that yields 360-degree views of landscape including the Gaviota Coast, Hollister and Bixby ranches, Point Conception, Vandenberg Air Force Base, Edna Valley, and state and county beaches and parks.
Another planned July 13 excursion features the vintage railcar āOverland Trail,ā housing live music by Paull E. Rubin on dobro and vocals with Robert Perales on guitar and vocals performing songs from the great American songbook, including classic railroad tunes.
Another daytrip is planned for July 20, on the historic Santa Fe club-lounge āAcoma.ā South Coast Railroad Museum volunteers will be on hand to provide information on local sights and points of interest.
Cost for the July 13 excursions is $79, $69 for July 20. Purchases can be made through the museumās website at goletadepot.org/ride. More information is available at 680-0397 or goletadepot.org.
