The mayor of Solvang, Jim Richardson, handed a key to the city to officials from the Special Olympics World Games Los Angeles 2015 on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Solvang Park.
Solvang will join 100 other communities from San Diego to San Luis Obispo in playing host to athletes from around the globe for the 2015 World Games in July. Special Olympic delegations will enjoy three days in Solvang before the games, where they will begin their training and experience the city’s Danish-American culture.
Solvang resident and 2008 Special Olympic gold medalist, Todd Rogers, also spoke during the city’s Sept. 24 announcement.
