Studio potter, painter, and sculptor Bill Shinn will share some of his secrets to success when he presents a program about painting and ceramics at 2 p.m. on May 18 in the Grange Hall at 2374 Alamo Pintado Ave. in Los Olivos. The presentation will consist of a slide show of his techniques as well as some information on entering shows.
Shinn will show and explain examples of experimental painting techniques that were instrumental in his getting into a number of national painting shows. The artist has demonstrated his techniques all over the country, as well as in Italy, New Zealand, and Korea.
He was an instructor at Allan Hancock College from 1967 to 1988 and the gallery director there from 1988 to 1990. He has received many awards for his painting and ceramics in this country and overseas, has written a number of instructional books, and has frequently published articles in magazines and newspapers in the United States.
