The latest C Gallery exhibit features samples from 22 years of the art of modern abstractionist, Dara Mark, in the show titled, “Dara Mark 1986–2008,” set to open Saturday, Nov. 10, with a reception open to the public from 4 to 6 p.m. at The C Gallery, 466 Bell St. in Los Alamos.
Once local to the Santa Ynez Valley and Santa Barbara County, Mark’s career now spans the country. Her earlier work concentrates on repetitive and pulled marks of prismacolor and pastel, while her later works use acrylic and acrylic washes on layers of dura-lar, a type of non-porous paper. The effect is luminous and has uncertain movement and transparency, said Gallery Director Connie Rohde.
Several museums have shown Mark’s work. The Palm Springs Art Museum’s annual, national, juried exhibition granted second prize to his Green Circles, which will be featured in this show.
Other museums that have shown Mark’s work include the Schneider Museum of Art in Ashland, Ore.; Museum of Contemporary Art in Fort Collins, Colo.; Albuquerque Museum; and the Harwood Museum in Taos.
