Artist Michael Corob will present a dye sublimation printing demonstration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at Gold Coast Art n’ Frames, 613 East Main St.
In dye sublimation printing, heat causes ink on a print to become a gas, which penetrates an expanded polyester or polymer surface. When the heat is removed, the surface contracts and the ink returns to a solid form.
Using the process, Corob creates gift items printed with pictures of neckties with company logos on them. Corob has given showcase demonstrations at the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce trade show and weekly breakfast meetings and is currently helping the Santa Maria Valley Humane Society raise money for its new building by printing tiles of adopted animals. He also gives sublimation demonstrations to schools.
There’s no charge to attend the demonstration. For more information, call 264-6722 or visit youani.org.
