A series of works in pastel and oil by local artist Carol Wood will be on view April 23 through June 25 at Los Olivos CafƩ, where the public is invited to a reception for the artist from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on May 3.

Born in Southern California, Wood moved to the Santa Ynez Valley in 1956 with her parents and three older brothers. Painting in oil, pastels, and acrylics, Wood focuses on everyday images inspired by the valley in which she lives.

Her painting style developed as attended a Ted Oerschner seminar, joined a Marcia Burtt workshop, and followed her own inspiration by such painters as Van Gogh and Sorolla over the years. She enjoys the light of the West Coast and the effect it has on landscape scenes. Her painting style has an impressionist approach with a broad brushstroke technique.

Wood’s work has been featured in local and Los Angeles-area venues. She’s one of eight artists featured in the current exhibit at the Elverhoj Museum in Solvang, ā€œGather Round; Herd Animals of the Santa Ynez Valley.ā€
