Righetti High School student Adriana Zamudio is the first-ever recipient of the Salad Bowl Festival Scholarship Award, receiving money to be applied to the college of her choice.
The scholarship was presented at the Kermit McKenzie Jr. High Awards Ceremony in Guadalupe on Thursday, May 31. The award was coordinated by the Salad Bowl Festival Committee, a newer community organization created to be host to Guadalupeās annual Salad Bowl Festival each fall, and to enhance Guadalupeās identity and celebrate the region, its businesses, and its residents.
The scholarship program is organized under the banner of the Guadalupe Cultural Arts and Education Center.
Zamudio will graduate from Righetti this month and plans to attend California State University Fresno in the fall, where sheāll try out for the cheerleading and dance teams while she decides on a major (possibly pediatric medicine). Zamudio has excelled in dance since she began classes at age 3. Sheās taken part in many community performances and also given back to the community, working as a youth dance instructor.
Applicants for the Salad Bowl Festival Scholarships must be residents of Guadalupe and, beginning in 2013, must have spent two years enrolled in the Guadalupe school system. Zamudio will also be honored at the Guadalupe City Council meeting on June 26 at 6 p.m.
The Salad Bowl Festival was first celebrated in 2010 and was established to promote the city of Guadalupe, its people, and their role as a major agricultural producer. The next Salad Bowl Festival is set for Oct. 13.
