The Santa Ynez Valley Charter School fifth grade class, clad in elf hats, helped in the preparation of 159 care packages for needy families on Dec. 16 at the Mission Santa Ines. The students are joining in the effort organized by Old Mission Santa Ines and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to provide local families with gifts and food for the holiday season.

The care boxes, elaborately decorated by the kids and volunteers, are to be picked up by the recipients on Dec. 19, starting at noon. The boxes will include gifts for kids, as well as toiletries, a supermarket gift card, and two chickens donated by El Rancho Market. More information is available at 688-2106 or glgeyser@yahoo.com.
