In mid-May, the city of Santa Maria celebrated the unveiling of a new softball-themed sculpture at the Hagerman Sports Complex. This colorful sculpture, created by local welders Jeremy and Tammy Mogavero, also functions as a recycling bin. The piece invites viewers to recycle cans or bottles by ā€œpitchingā€ them inside the sculpture, according to Santa Maria officials.

The sculpture is described as a collaborative project co-produced by the city’s Utilities Department and Recreation and Parks Department through funding from a Cal-Recycle grant.
