The Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department’s Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center presents the class Sewing with Ms. Burns, a free course for teens in seventh through 12th grades on Jan. 13 from noon to 4 p.m.

The course, hosted by Michelle Burns, is designed for those with little to no sewing experience, and will teach teens how to safely operate, prepare, and maintain a sewing machine. All materials will be provided. Burns is a seamstress who has taught at Allan Hancock College.

Registration is available online at cityofsantamaria.com/register, at the Recreation and Parks Department’s administrative office (615 S. McClelland St., Santa Maria) Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or at the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center (600 S.
