The Santa Maria Civic Theatre (SMCT) welcomes local families to the production of Peter Pan and Wendy, which is the result of the Civic Theatre’s Summer Fairy Tales program, a summer program for youth interested in the theater. The production is a fast-moving adaptation of the Peter Pan story by J.M. Barrie. Doug Rand tailored the script to young audiences.

The show is directed by Santa Maria Civic Theatre volunteer Cagney Herrick, who said in a press release, “I love this story because of the juxtaposition between Peter Pan and Wendy. Wendy is this young girl that is very nurturing and mature like a mother while Peter is a very selfish boy who just wants to have fun.”

The production is also sponsored by the Central Coast Autism Spectrum Center, which makes sure the show’s lighting and effects are sensitive to those diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Shows are open to the public at no cost, but reservations are recommended. Shows run on Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 1:30 and 7 p.m., and Sundays at 1:30 p.m. July 21 through 24 and July 28 through 31.

More information and reservations are available at 922-4442 or smct.org
