The Santa Maria Arts Council welcomed the talents of local art students for display as part of the council’s 36th annual Student Arts Show, currently on display at the Santa Maria Town Center. Teachers of students from grades seven through 12 were invited to select student work in the categories of drawing, painting, design, and photography.

The show runs through March 31. An artists’ reception event is March 30 from 5 to 6 p.m. with an awards presentation at 5:30 p.m. The Arts Council hopes to support aspiring artists with more than just certificates of participation, ribbons, and the cash prizes for first, second, and third place winners, but to also impart intangible rewards, like self-esteem, creativity, perceptual capacity, and community enrichment through the arts.

The annual Student Arts Show hangs in the upper level of the Santa Maria Town Center in the Macy’s wing. More information is available at smartscouncil.org.
