The Santa Barbara County Fair invites local amateur vintners to compete in the Home Wine Competition happening at the fair on June 11. All locals who made wine with grapes grown in Santa Barbara or San Luis Obispo counties are eligible to compete. Entry deadline to submit online is May 13, with several varietal categories to choose from, including red, white, rosé wines, dessert wines, and fruit wines.

The Central Coast Home Vintners’ Association, a local organization that ensures safety and quality in home winemaking as well as impartiality in the competition, will judge the contest. The competition has grown in popularity over its 22 years, and included 82 entries last year.

Information, including the rules and a guidebook for the competition, is available at santamariafairpark.com. Registration remains open online through May 13 at stbarb.fairwire.com. More information about the Central Coast Home Vintners’ Association is available at cchva.org. Additional information is available at 264-0611 or drfredcarbone@msn.com.
