The Santa Barbara County Water Agency announced that voting is currently open for the People’s Choice Award for the annual Water Wise High School Video Contest. The competition includes 30-second videos submitted by local high school students with official judges awarding tiered distinctions, but the People’s Choice Award is open for judging via the website waterwisesb.org through April 22.
Students submitted videos from high schools including Bishop Garcia Diego, Cabrillo, Carpinteria, Dos Pueblos, Dunn, Laguna Blanca, Pioneer Valley, San Marcos, Santa Barbara, and Santa Ynez Valley. This is the 17th annual Water Wise High School Video Contest, which seeks to educate locals on water conservation while meeting California state content standards, the Santa Barbara County Water Agency explained in a press release.
“Besides being fun to watch, the videos really show off the students’ creativity, as well as their understanding of the value of water during this time of drought,” explained County Public Works Department Director Scott McGolpin.
The contest this year is focused specifically on the topic Water Conservation in the Forecast: How to be Water Wise Outside, Rain or Shine. Videos from past years have been used as public service announcements on television and in movie theaters.
