Santa Maria High School will honor one of their own on Nov. 19, holding the first-ever Terry Butler Memorial basketball game at the school’s Wilson Gym.

Butler played basketball at Allan Hancock College, where he was a third team National All-Junior College player in 1990, and later went on to play for New Mexico State. A longtime security guard and basketball coach at Santa Maria High, Butler died unexpectedly at the age of 45 on May 11 in his hometown of Philadelphia.

High school staffers and faculty will play the Saints’ junior varsity team at 5:30 p.m., and the varsity team will face a team made up of Santa Maria High alumni at 7 p.m. All alumni who graduated up to 2005 are eligible to play.
