When Rosario Bras was a Righetti High student, he was called the “Freshman Sensation,” and the name stuck with him for his freshman year on the Allan Hancock College soccer team.

Bras earned the title, in both cases. During his freshman years at both schools, he was the highest scorer on the team. And, for this season at Hancock, he’s the top scorer in the California Community College Soccer standings with 21 goals and three assists—a total of 45 points.

Hancock will be playing against College of the Canyons, and, according to assistant coach Miguel Gamboa, Bras will need to score two goals to make up for their last game, when he didn’t score.

The future for Bras looks promising; head coach Al Garcia sees him as a Division-I prospect.

“We’ve already had lunch with Cal Poly, and San Jose State is on the list,” he said. In addition, Garcia sees Bras as a potential Player of the Year for their conference.

Bras is certainly a well-balanced athlete and scholar; when he asked coach Garcia what time they were leaving for a recent game with College of the Canyons, the exchange went like this:

“The bus leaves at noon,” Garcia said.

“Okay, so I can take my test?” Bras asked.

How many people in his position would ask that?
