The South Coast Railroad Museum at the Goleta Depot will play host to author and historian Henry E. Bender, Jr., for a book signing event on Aug. 17 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the museum at 300 N. Los Carneros Road, Goleta.

In his book Southern Pacific Lines Standard-Design Depots, Bender details historic railroad depot buildings in Santa Barbara, Ventura, and San Luis Obispo counties. The 320-page book features historical photographs and illustrations of the various depots, some which don’t exist anymore.

The event will include copies of Bender’s book for purchase, with all proceeds benefiting the South Coast Railroad Museum. His talk is a part of the museum’s annual Railroad Days celebration, which runs Aug. 17 and 18 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The festivities will feature railroad and historical items for sale, model railroad supplies, books, clothing, videos, posters, collectibles, and free miniature train rides from 1 to 4 p.m. each day.
