People for Leisure and Youth (PLAY) Inc. is giving families a chance to hit the pool for free on Aug. 24 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Paul Nelson Aquatic Center.

The center has an Olympic-sized competition pool as well as a recreational pool with a fan-shaped, zero-depth entryway. Lifeguards are on duty during pool hours, but adults must accompany children under the age of 5 who are in the water.

Santa Maria Recreation and Parks made sure to point out that ā€œbathing suits are requiredā€ in its 2014 Calendar of Events and Programs.

Want to swim? Paul Nelson Aquatic Center is located at 600 S. McClelland St.
