The Pacific Conservatory Foundation (PCPA) will open its production of Shrek The Musical on June 22, running the show through June 25 at the Marian Theatre at Allan Hancock College. The musical—based on the Oscar-winning computer animated film—will then continue to show June 30 through July 31 at the Solvang Festival Theater.Ā

With heavy influences from the movies, and of course the Tony-nominated score and script, the production will feature plenty of PCPA’s signature stamp. Brad Carroll directs the ā€œfractured fairy tale,ā€ which focuses on finding the hero in everyone, even big green ogres. There are also original designs for scenery by Jason Bolen, costumes by Eddy L. Barrows, lights by Jennifer Zornow, and sound design by Elisabeth Weidner.Ā

Beloved PCPA resident artists make up the starring cast, including Erik Stein as Shrek, Karin Hendricks as Princess Fiona, George Walker as Pinocchio, and Michael Jenkinson as Lord Farquaad. PCPA ensemble students and visiting actors make up the rest of the cast in the storybook mashup.

Tickets to the Marian Theatre shows are $29.50 to $39.50. The Marian Theatre is located at 800 S. College Drive, Santa Maria. Tickets to the Solvang Festival Theater shows are $38.50 to $49.50. The Solvang Festival Theater is located at 420 2nd St., Solvang. More information is available at 922-8313 or pcpa.org.
