At the tail end of 2008, representatives from the Orcutt Aquacenter announced that the project had received a $50,000 grant from the Wood-Claeyssens Foundation.

“We are currently over 90 percent through the permit process and are anxious to begin the actual ground breaking and site development,” Director of Development Terri Lee Coleman said in a press release. “The funding will help significantly in reaching the goal of finalizing the remaining part of the permit process to allow us to begin grading, underground utilities, and construction of the community building phase of the project in the spring of 2009.”

Aquacenter project members are encouraging locals to consider a donation in the new year, join as a member for a $100 annual fee, buy a benefit dinner ticket for $100 (includes two dinners) for Jan. 24 at St. Joseph High School, sponsor or donate a silent or live auction item to the benefit dinner, volunteer time or in-kind services, or all of the above.

The Orcutt Aquacenter project site sits at the southeast corner of Union Valley Parkway and Hummel Drive. Send contributions to Orcutt Aquacenter, Inc., P.O. Box 2580, Orcutt, CA 93457-2580. For more information call 714-9292, e-mail terrileecoleman@verizon.net, or visit orcuttaquacentersmv.org.
