• Santa Maria BMX clinic: BMX enthusiasts and the curious can learn what it takes to become a better rider at the Free Agent/Rockstar Clinic at Santa Maria BMX on June 23 from 10 a.m. to noon. U.S. Olympian Christian Becerine, Marcus Hampton, and members of the Free Agent BMX team will conduct the two-hour clinic, covering the basics of BMX racing. Pre-registration is $35, available at the track. Admission is $40 for walk-ins on the day of the clinic. • P.A.L. boxing show: Support the local boxing community and witness a night of action-packed athleticism at the Santa Maria Police Activities League’s (PAL) Amateur Boxing Show on June 23 at the Minami Community Center. • Santa Maria Youth Football League: The league is taking registrations for the 2012 football and cheerleading seasons. Football fees are $200, including a jersey, gear rental, a trophy, and a basic picture package. Players must be between the ages of 8 and 14 during the season to participate. Cheerleaders must be in kindergarten to eighth grade for the 2012-2013 school year. Fees are $180 and include uniform, cheer camp, and a basic picture package. Registrations will be held at the Westgate Community Room, 1300 Marsala Ave., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 23 to 24, July 14 to 15, and July 21 to 22. • City summer camp: The Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department’s Summer Day Camp is ongoing through Aug. 10. The program includes activities designed to encourage physical activity, creativity, self-confidence, cooperation, problem solving, and responsibility. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the camp moves to the Paul Nelson Aquatic Center at 600 S. McClelland St., where participants can enjoy swimming in the afternoon. The camp fee is $75 per weekly session. • Horace Grant basketball camp: Children ages 10 to 18 are invited to participate in the Horace Grant Elite Basketball Camp, June 25 through 28 in San Luis Obispo. The camp is led by former Chicago Bulls forward and NBA All-Star Horace Grant, and runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at San Luis Obispo High School, 1499 San Luis Dr. The cost is $400 per child. • Hancock baseball clinic: Baseball players ages 6 to 18 can sharpen their hitting, fielding, and pitching skills at Allan Hancock College’s Summer Baseball Clinic, June 25 to 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Instructors include former major league pitcher Bryn Smith, as well as coaches from Allan Hancock College, Santa Maria Valley Packers, and Lompoc High.
