• Cruzin’ for Life: The annual car show, cruise, and concert fundraising event takes place Sept. 21 to 23 at the Santa Maria Fairpark. Friday’s events include Family Fun Night, an evening of carnival rides and games, a car show meet and greet, and a ’60s dance at the Plaza Pavilion. The event continues Saturday with a car show, live music, a cruise down Broadway, and a dinner/live auction to close out the night. Sunday concludes with a performance by Los Lobos along with Dave Mason, and the Stray Cat Lee Rocker. American Graffiti’s Candy Clark will be the concert host. The event is a benefit for Marian Cancer Care, the American Cancer Society’s Camp Reach for the Stars, and the Young Cancer Survivors Scholarship Fund. For more information, visit cruzinforlife.net.
• Take Me Fishing: The Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department, People for Leisure And Youth (PLAY), and the Santa Maria Valley Sportsmen’s Association are inviting youth 6 to 12 to the annual “Take Me Fishing” event on Sept. 23 at Jim May Park. From 9 a.m. to noon, children and their parents can learn the basics of fishing and take part in catch-and-release fishing, join a casting contest, and learn about lake life. Loaner fishing poles, tackle, and bait will be provided for all parent and child pairs. No fishing experience is necessary. Jim May Park is at 809 Stanford Dr. in Santa Maria.
