• Disc Golf tournament: Disc golfers will seek to earn a spot in the 2011 United States Disc Golf Championship at the Professional Disc Golf Association’s Santa Maria Open July 29 to 31 at Waller County Park. • Santa Maria Valley Men’s Amateur Golf Tournament: An annual amateur golf championship held at Rancho Maria Golf Course in Santa Maria is July 30 and 31. The 36-hole, stroke-play tournament starts at 8 a.m. on July 30; Day 2 begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The entry fee is $175 before July 21, and $200 thereafter. • Bertka “Speaks”: Former Los Angeles Lakers and Allan Hancock College coach Bill Bertka will be the featured guest speaker at “The Valley Speaks” event on July 30 at the Santa Maria Public Library. • Orcutt soccer coaches’ clinic: The Orcutt United Youth Soccer League and Cal Poly Mustang Soccer are holding a free youth coaches’ clinic on Aug 6 at the Rice Ranch community fields in Orcutt from 10 a.m. to noon. The seminar incorporates warm-up drills, passing and receiving exercises, and possession drills, followed by a question and answer session. • Joe White Memorial Auction: Rare and one-of-a-kind sports memorabilia will be up for bid at Allan Hancock College’s 10th annual Joe White Memorial Dinner and Auction on Aug. 20. The auction takes place at the Santa Maria Fairpark Pavilion, 937 South Thornburg in Santa Maria. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for a social hour and silent auction, followed by a steak dinner, held promptly at 7:07 p.m. The event finishes off with the live auction.
