• Joe White Memorial Dinner & Auction: One-of-a-kind sports memorabilia and other unique items will be up for bid to support Allan Hancock College athletics on Aug. 18. The event takes place at the Santa Maria Fairpark Pavilion, 937 S. Thornburg in Santa Maria. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for a social hour and silent auction, followed by a dinner starting promptly at 7:07 p.m. The live auction follows, including multiple vacation packages up for bid for stays in Palm Desert, Oceano, and Newport Beach, including a sightseeing cruise in Newport Harbor. Also available are private hitting and pitching lessons with retired major-league pitcher Bryn Smith and multiple gourmet dinners. Admission is $40 per person, and tables for 10 are $500. • 12th Annual Jane Merlo Memorial Golf tournament: This fundraising tournament providing scholarships for youth in golf will be held at the Rancho Maria Golf Club in Santa Maria on Aug. 25. The event is a nine-hole scramble, starting with a check-in at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., followed by an orientation by golf pro Mike O’Keefe and Anne Glines. The entry fee is $70 for adults and $30 for juniors, with lunch, green fees and golf cart for adults included. Mulligans are $10, or three for $20. • Cruzin’ for Life: The annual car show, cruise and concert fundraising event Cruzin’ for Life takes place Sept. 21 to 23 at the Santa Maria Fairpark. Friday’s events include Family Fun Night, an evening of carnival rides and games, a car show meet and greet, and a ’60s dance at the Plaza Pavilion. The event continues Saturday with a car show, live music, a cruise down Broadway, and a dinner/live auction to close out the night. Sunday concludes with a performance by Los Lobos along with Dave Mason, and the Stray Cat Lee Rocker. American Graffiti’s Candy Clark will be the concert host. The event is a benefit for Marian Cancer Care, the American Cancer Society’s Camp Reach for the Stars, and the Young Cancer Survivors Scholarship Fund. For more information, visit cruzinforlife.net.
