Nipomo High School has been selected to perform this month at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. The students were chosen to participate in the world’s largest and most prestigious arts festival as part of the American High School Theatre Festival. Nominated by PCPA, the school’s Drama Department competed against 3,000 applicants from across the United States—and only 3 percent of nominated schools were invited to attend.
The school has been raising money since it was notified about the selection earlier this year. The Fringe Festival attracts hundreds of thousands of international theater enthusiasts and includes more than 1,800 different music, theater, dance, and comedy performances. The students will have several performance opportunities during their two-week stay. They’ll also get to experience shows from around the world.
The Nipomo High School Drama Department, eight years old, has turned out student actors who’ve consistently taken top honors in statewide competitions, and many have gone on to pursue the performing arts at colleges and universities.
Nipomo High students will perform Nunsense in Scotland. The musical comedy is about the misadventures of five nuns trying to stage a talent show to raise money to bury their dearly departed sisters. Emmy-winning choreographer Suzy Miller adds her magical touches to the show as well.
