The boys’ volleyball season has only just begun, and Pioneer Valley High School senior Nickolas Equihua is already “killing” it.
The past two years have been seasons of total transformation for Equihua, who has worked tirelessly to improve his blocking and hitting skills. Coach Ralph Quintana said Equihua gathered up about 71 kills—well above average—and 14 solo blocks for his team last year.
The success is well-deserved, according to Quintana, who said Equihua is always first to practice, easily coached, and—as team captain and one of the few seniors on this year’s team—is the first person other players look to for help.
Equihua, who hopes to attend college next school year and major in architecture, is also being scouted by some college volleyball teams, Quintana said.
