It’s been a slow start to the high school softball season so far thanks to the rainy weather, but Pioneer Valley High School student Monique Gomez is already showing a lot of promise on the field.
Gomez, a junior and a third-year varsity softball player, is one of the hardest working players on Pioneer Valley’s team, according to coach Kristina Sewell. When Gomez steps on the diamond, Sewell said, “She means business.”
In her first game of the season, Gomez made solid contact at the plate three times before making it on base. She made stellar and agile plays at shortstopāher usual post when not playing second base.
Sewell said she expects to see Gomez take on an important role on the team this season, and she hopes Gomez will continue to push herself in practice and during games. If she keeps up the good work, Sewell said Gomez could play college ball.
