Local dance instructor David King, who owned Kings of Swing Dance Studio with his wife, Marie King, passed away on Jan. 5 at the age of 68 following complications from a neuromuscular disease, Marie told the Sun. Her husband left behind a legacy of education and mentorship for locals who enjoyed the art of dance, she said.

ā€œDance was not just a business for David, it was a ministry of love,ā€ she said. ā€œHe always told me that people didn’t just come in to dance, they came in for other reasons; they wanted to meet people, or gain confidence, and so he took a personal interest in everyone’s life that he taught.ā€

King is survived by his wife and children and several grandchildren. But he will also be remembered by the students and dance teachers he mentored, Marie said.Ā

A memorial service is scheduled for Jan.Ā  22 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Chapel, located at 2620 Santa Maria Way,
Santa Maria.
