Unfortunately for Lucky (Anya Taylor-Joy), what happened in Vegas didn’t stay in Vegas. After celebrating a particularly lucrative heist with her husband, Cary (Drew Starkey), Lucky wakes to discover that both the cash and her husband are MIA. Full of nonstop action and on-the-run adventure, this seven-part series is based on a novel of the same name. It has mob links, mothers-in-law, car chases, and all the trappings of an action series looking to pack a punch.
Taylor-Joy is a great lead, feisty and fierce as Lucky, a woman out to uncover what the hell is happening. Annette Bening plays Priscilla, Lucky’s mother-in-law and arch villain, tossing Lucky into the trunk of a car after Cary and their stolen money went missing.
There is plenty to watch out there, but when I see a miniseries that’s going to deliver hours of bingeable content, I’m excited—and Lucky delivers. Fast-paced and witty, this series will go by like a flash and leave you wanting even more. It also has style—a crime thriller that ultimately asks the question of how far the apple falls from the tree. Timothy Olyphant stars as Lucky’s criminal father, John. Hunker down and stream this one. (seven 39-to-48-min. episodes)
