The Lompoc Valley Sculptors Guild, in association with the Lompoc Valley Arts Council, is seeking to install four outdoor public garden sized sculptures in Lompoc’s Centennial Square.
Each sculpture may be in place for at least one year and will be replaced by new sculptures for the following year on an ongoing basis. The goal is to provide incentive for local established and aspiring sculptors to have their work seen by the public and to enrich and enhance the arts environment for Lompoc.
Selection of the four pieces will be made through a competition open to residents 18 years or older from the Lompoc, Santa Maria, and Santa Ynez valleys. Each sculptor may enter up to three pieces for consideration. Submissions must be completed work only. No models or sketches. There will be a $25 entry fee for each piece. Work may or may not be for sale, with 25 percent of sales going to fund future placements.
Judging will be done by a committee of members from local arts organizations. All work must be made of suitable materials to withstand local weather conditions and will be mounted on 3-foot by 3-foot concrete pads. Deadline is June 1, with notification of acceptance June 15. Sculptures will be delivered and installed between June 18 and July 18.
A prospectus and call for entry application forms may be obtained at the Lompoc Museum, 200 S. H St.; the Lompoc Art Association, 119 E. Cypress Ave.; the Lompoc Chamber of Commerce, 111 S. I St.; South Side Coffee Co., 105 S. H St.; and New Lows, 104 W. Ocean Ave. For more information, contact Eric Morlan at emorlan@verizon.net or Ed Brooks or edbrooks44@verizon.net.
