The Lompoc Pops Orchestra’s new season has been branded with the theme New Beginnings, welcoming a new guest conductor to each concert event. The first concert begins with Olivia Tsui, founder and music director of the Los Angeles Virtuosi, which will sponsor three performers who will also visit for the concert on Sept. 15.
Tsui will bring guitarist Del Casher, who played with Elvis in the movie Roustabout, and will be playing live with the Lompoc Pops with a wah pedal, which he had a hand in inventing. Dr. Marek Zebrowski will also join the show with his piano and orchestra arrangement of the movie theme “Love Forgives All.” Also performing will be soprano Rene Sousa, the great-grand niece of John Philip Sousa.
The Lompoc Pops Orchestra will be performing a varied program with the talented virtuosi under the baton of Tsui, including themes from favorite movies like Star Wars, as well as traditional themes from opera or Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever.” The concert takes place Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 925 N. F St., Nipomo. Cost is $15, $5 for full-time students.
