The Lompoc Pops Orchestra will honor longtime flutist Alice McGonigal, who passed away in late August, at its upcoming holiday concert on Dec. 2.

McGonigal served as the principal flute for the Lompoc Pops, and was a member of the flute sections of the Santa Maria Philharmonic Orchestra and the San Luis Obispo Symphony. She was also a founding member of the Lompoc Pops, according to Connie Barlow, the organization’s publicity person.

“She was an extremely talented and well trained musician who also played the piccolo, fife, Irish-folk flute, and guitar in addition to some viola and cello,” Barlow told the Sun via email. “She left an indelible and positive impression on the artistic climate of the Central Coast and will, indeed, be sorely missed.”

The orchestra’s upcoming holiday concert will be dedicated to McGonigal, and honor her longtime contributions to the organization and the Central Coast music community. The program at the concert will include seasonal classics like “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “The Christmas Song,” but will also delve into “Song of Chanukah” and favorites from “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”

The Lompoc Pops Orchestra will perform the program with Maestro Brian Asher-Alhadeff on Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 925 North F St., Lompoc. Cost is $20, $5 for full-time students. More information is available at (805) 735-6463.
