Duffers and hoopsters of all skill levels are invited to participate in the Lompoc Police Department’s Police Activities League summer golf and basketball programs, which begin June 30.

The golf program is split into beginner and advanced levels and runs until Aug. 19. Transportation to the courses may be provided if necessary.

Beginner golf practices—for children ages 8 to 11—will be held Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Rayon Park at 3 p.m. The group will also make occasional trips to the Village Country Club.

More experienced golfers and players older than 12 can join the advanced group, which will hold practices at Village Country Club Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 1:15 p.m.

The department will hold its basketball camp for youth ages 10 to 15 at the Boys and Girls Club of Lompoc on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings until July 29.

Former Division-I basketball player and current Lompoc Police Officer Scott Morgan will provide primary instruction for the practices, which will stress the importance of teamwork and strengthening weaknesses.

No experience or equipment is required to take part in either camp, which will also incorporate curriculum from the Gang Resistance Education and Training Program.

To sign up for the programs, visit the PAL website at lompocpal.com. Registration forms are also available at the Lompoc Police Department’s front desk.

For more information, contact Officer Philip Dollman by phone at 875-8152 or e-mail pdollman@ci.lompoc.ca.us.
