A Lompoc man has started a fundraiser to benefit the Special Olympics of Northern Santa Barbara County.

Cooper Barrick, brother of Lompoc Special Olympic athlete Cameron Barrick, intends to raise $5,000 for Special Olympics by walking the entire 500-mile Camino de Santiago in northern Spain. Cameron is autistic.

Cooper has set up a website for donations in his brother’s name. All proceeds will go to the Special Olympics, providing sports training, competitions, and programs to benefit athletes, their families, and their communities.

In addition to set amounts, contributors can also make pledges based on the mileage walked and the completion of the pilgrimage. Donations can be made with cash, checks, and credit cards.

To donate, or find out more about Cooper’s walk, visit camino4cameron.com. To sponsor the walk, send an e-mail to sponsor@camino4cameron.com.
