The Lompoc Museum is collaborating with Club Arcturus to bring the work of lauded Santa Barbara poet and artist Sojourner Kincaid Rolle to the museum in celebration of Black History Month. The exhibit, Black Street: An Exhibition of Poems and other Cultural Artifacts, will feature Rolle’s poetry as well as artifacts and assemblages to accompany each poem. She will also present a poetry reading and special reception event on Feb. 23 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the museum.

Rolle has a long history of community involvement in Santa Barbara. She produced and hosted the popular Santa Barbara public access show Outrageous Women from 1988 to 1995, during which she interviewed many prominent black thinkers. She was a founding member of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee of Santa Barbara and serves as chair of the committee’s annual essay and poetry contest. She is also involved with UC Santa Barbara, having been appointed as the community coordinator for cultural affairs at the college’s Center for Black Studies. She is currently the artistic director for City at Peace, and teaches poetry to students in Santa Barbara County through her Song of Peace Poetry Project.

The exhibition will show through March 2 at The Lompoc Museum, 200 South H St., Lompoc. More information is available at 736-3888 or lompocmuseum@gmail.com.
