The Lompoc Aquatic Center is celebrating its five-year anniversary this year and will be marking the milestone with a special event on Oct. 22.

The public is invited to participate in a free recreation swim from 1 to 4 p.m. Afterward, the Center’s Competition Pool will play host to ā€œBoat Float,ā€ water walking, and lifeguard skills demonstrations. Games such as underwater hockey and tricycle races, inner tube races, mini-swim lessons, and a ā€œDiscover Diveā€ will be held in the recreation pool, while aquatic games are held in the Therapy Pool.

Special swim lesson assessments will also be offered in the Recreation Pool from 4 to 4:30 p.m. for parents who would like to see their children’s swim level, and later, the pool will be open for a variety of relays and games. In the Therapy Pool, a professional photographer will be on hand to take underwater pictures of children. Then, stick around until 7 p.m. for Lompoc’s first ā€œdive-in theater,ā€ for a showing of the film Finding Nemo and an open swim.

For more information or to register to participate, call the Aquatic Center office at 875-8100.
