All-star teams from Santa Maria, Five Cities, and Nipomo made it to the championships on July 6 at the Star Spangled Softball Tournament at Lakeview Junior High School, hosted by the Orcutt Youth Softball Association.
The Santa Maria Dream Team took a 3-1 victory against Moorpark in the under-10 finals, led by pitcher Hannah Diaz. In the under-14 championship game, the Five Cities Diamond Girls rode the pitching of Maurisa Dominguez to a 5-0 win over the Santa Maria Stingers. Dominguez struck out nine in the complete game effort.
The under-8 championship, scoreless through five innings, was decided by a tiebreaker, and the win went to the Nipomo Heat. Moorpark won the under-12 division title with a 12-0 win over Santa Monica.
The action continues with the Hot July Nights Tournament July 18 through 20, hosted by Santa Maria Girls Softball.
