Several local high school athletes made the cut when the CIF Southern Section announced its All-CIF teams for baseball and softball on June 20.
CIF coaches selected Lompoc senior pitcher Ryan Bower and Nipomo junior pitcher Ryan McNeil as Division 5 first-team members for baseball. Bower finished the season with a 1.35 earned run average with 99 strikeouts, while McNeil was the Los Padres Leagueās MVP, posting a 1.40 ERA and a 7-1 record during the season.
Two of Bowerās teammates, senior catcher Dan Mallory and junior pitcher Lucas Martin, were named to the Division 5 second team, along with Cabrillo outfielder-pitchers Thomas White and Henry Fienga.
Mallory hit .366, while Martin went 7-1 and posted a 1.56 ERA on the mound. Fienga finished the year with a .413 batting average and went 4-2 with an ERA of 0.99 as a pitcher. White was 8-2 with a 1.54 ERA.
In softball, Nipomo sophomore pitcher Courtney Cuzick made the Division 5 first team. Cuzick won 15 games during the season for the league co-champions, finishing with 272 strikeouts and an ERA of 0.66.
Freshman pitcher Alyssa Rodrigues of Orcutt Academy was named to the Division 7 team, the first athlete from the school to ever make an All-CIF team. Rodrigues posted a 0.88 ERA during the regular season and batted .460. Valley Christian Academy junior pitcher Una Hertzog also made the Division 7 team.
