The City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department announced that three participants in its Karate-Do class will head to Vancouver, British Columbia, to represent the United States in the eighth World Shito Ryu Karate-Do Championships, set for July 29 to 31.
Atsuko Wolcott, Scott Rizzo, and Andreya Pineda will compete in the women’s, men’s, and girls’ competitions, respectively. The trio, making their first appearance in the event, will be attending along with instructor Miguel Villalobos.
 The city’s Karate-Do class is open to participants ages 6 and older and meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. at Maramonte Park, 620 E. Sunrise Drive, in Santa Maria. The cost to participate is $52.50 for city residents and $65 per month for non-residents. The class is registered by the U.S.A. and International Karate-Do-Kai organizations.
