This year, the Jeep 48STRAIGHT Mountain Bike Series at the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo is adding something new to the competition—besides the funky name. For the first time, the event will include an open qualifier for local professional and semi-professional riders.
Racers from around the state can enter and race on the same slalom course as the pros. The riders with the fastest times will gain entry into the dual slalom championship and a chance to win money and prizes. The grand finale of the series will take place on Oct. 24 and 25. The open qualifier will be held Oct. 24. Athletes interested in signing up can get more information and a registration form at www.48straight.com/sports.
There will also be pros at the race, competing for a share of $100,000 and a new Jeep. Among the world’s top competitors set to ride are Brian Lopes, Eric Carter, Cody Warren, Melissa Buhl, and Kathy Pruitt.
